Today I can truly say that I have recovered from my lingering illness which lasted a little over 3 weeks. I don’t think I will ever know the actual diagnosis thanks to poor diagnostic work from my Tanzanian colleagues. Contrary to all my principles I self-medicated and treated myself, first for the early symptoms of bilharzia and then a course of Coartem for malaria. These are now complete and I am a new man. I have a sneaky feeling it actually was Bilharzia from Lake Tanganyika.
